Can someone please clarify the following for me?

At the bottom of forum webpages there is the advisory notice (for example):

Who is online
Users browsing this forum: LastUnicorn and 2 guests

What does this refer to? Does this mean that there are "2 guests" currently viewing any post anywhere in the forums? Or does this mean there are "2 guests" currently viewing the specific sub-forum I am currently viewing? Or does this mean that there are "2 guests" currently looking at the specific webpage I happen to be viewing at the time?

Two guests viewing the current post, and LastUnicorn; if one changes to the main OO page, showing all threads, one can see that there are/were 148 guests (many bots).

These guests are often bots (search engine) who crawl the forum
