[Solved] Paste not available

The last couple of days I've noticed when using Writer the paste function is not on the bottom of the drop down right click menu, nor is it in the edit menu to paste or paste special. I have to close the document, re-open it then I can paste what I previously copied. The paste again, I have to close it again and reopen. and so on. I don't know if I did something wrong, but can someone tell me how to fix this? It's really a pain. Thanks

Is only the Paste function missing from the right-click menu or is the menu entirely different? If a document is opened as Read Only, the right-click menu is entirely different. At the top left corner of the Writer window, where the document name is displayed, is {read-only} also displayed?

Thanks for your reply. Document is NOT read only. Last week I retrieved a document from my off line storage, opened it, it was read only, I changed that so I could alter it. I think that was when this problem started. But the documents I currently have the paste problem with are NOT read only. My right click menu reads Default Formatting, Continue previous numbering, font, size, style, alignment, line spacing, Character, paragraph, page, numbering /bullets, case/characters, edit paragraph style. This doesn't seem right - I'm far from an expert as you can tell.

I get the same right-click menu options if earlier in the document I have some numbered paragraphs except that I have the two additional items Synonyms and Paste. I don't know of any way the user can change the items in the right-click menu. You could try resetting your user profile, which sometimes fixes strange behavior. I don't know what operating system you are using, so I can't give detailed instructions. There is a tutorial here on how to do that. If you need help, please say whether you are using Windows, or macOS or Linux.

I'm using Windows 10, considering to upgrade to 11 soon. I'll check out the tutorial. Thanks for your suggestion

This thread had been marked as solved and the suggested fix was resetting the user profile, so I would start with that. It is not hard to do.
1. Shutdown OpenOffice
2. Open any folder
3. In the address bar near the top of the folder, type %appdata%\openoffice\4 and press Enter
4. Right click on the user folder, select Rename and change the name of the folder to user_old
5. Restart OpenOffice. You should get the registration screen. Fill that out and check if the problem is solved.
