How to add data to an address label template

Post by bha19 »

About once a month I need to send about 8 label to foreign countries. I have letters that are typed up with the name and address for each label. What I have tried so far is to open each letter in open office and cut/paste each name/address. The trouble I have with this is the margins do not line up in each label and some of the letters of the address are cut off. When I backspace I can see that the margin on some of the labels do not match with the margin of the actual label. What I mean is I can backspace 3 spaces outside of the the label before it goes up one line. How do I properly take an address from a letter and put it on a label so I stay in the margins?

On https://avery.com you might find the right label template in docx format for MS Word and in ods format for other software. Basically, it is a document with a table where some table cells represent the labels and other table cells represent the spaces between the labels.
If you need the labels for the same few addresses, you fill out the table with no connection to any database.

Alternatively, you can use the label wizard (File>New>Labels) to generate a label document that consists of a pattern of frames. Don't specify any database and don't check the "synchronize" option on the options tab. Then write the addresses directly into the frames.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

My problem seems to be with the margins for each address. The letters start about 3 spaces before the label so it is cut off. I already have the template from Avery.

Might the problem be with the Page Margin? If that is incorrect, it will displace all label margins on the same line.

It is weird that some of the labels line up but others in the same row or column do not. Also wouldn't the template itself be set up to correct the margins?

It would be helpful to know the manufacturer and type number of the labels, the model of printer and the normal paper size you use for daily printing.

My label paper is 8 1/2 X 11 and my labels are 1X2 5/8 (so 30 labels per page). I know the formatting is the problem because if I backspace on a label the cursor can backspace 4 spaces in front of each label before going up a line. I have tried word template from Avery for word labels and the free open office template as well as a free downloaded blank open office template. The labels I have are by executive choice. I really do appreciate all the suggestions.
