[Solved] "Unknown Graphics Format" when opening an .hwp file

Post by kkwaggi »

Hi! I just recently started using OpenOffice. I wanted to open an .hwp file. As far as I am aware, this is a standard file for Hangul. I wanted to use that file to use a template for a Korean exam.

After trying to open the file on OpenOffice, I see a "Filter Selection Tab"
Image

I attached an image. I hope it works because I've never used a forum where I attach images like this. But basically for that selection tab, I guess it shows me options of how I can open my file(?)
For .hwp files, I'm not sure which one I should open and I just click a random one and it gives me an error "Unknown graphics format" and sometimes "General Error"

Please help me, I don't know what to do. I want to be able to edit the file. Thank you! :)

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

These appear to come from Hangul (word processor) so I presume you want to open the file in Writer. I moved your topic to the Writer forum.

The File → Open → Options File type dialog shows which file formats Writer can open. Many file types are supported but HWP isn't one of them. You cannot open your file with Writer.

If you have access to the Hangul word_processor it's possible you could save it in a mutually-supported format, perhaps DOC. You could also use a web search to see if there are websites which will convert from HWP format to one of the types listed above.

It didn't — take a look. Use the Attachments tab at the bottom of the forum's posting dialog to attach an image.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

The problem is that it is a standard for that application ONLY!
This may belong to vendor lock-in policy. Thus, either stick to that application or use it to export the file in a real standard.
Note that there are some articles on the web about opening such files. Try LibreOffice (at least a portable version), it may be able to open it.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.

I can not open the only one .hwp file (in my LO) what I found on this site:
https://example-files.online-convert.com/

https://example-files.online-convert.com/document/hwp/
Tibor Kovacs, Hungary; LO7.5.8/25.8.5.2 /Win7-10-11 x64Prof.
PortableApps: LO3.3.0-25.8.5.2;AOO4.1.14
Please, edit the initial post in the topic: add the word [Solved] at the beginning of the subject line - if your problem has been solved.
