Hello,
I'm unable to open one of documents due to format error. I've been trying to fix it using the other posts on this website but can't make much headway.
The error is saying there is an issue in content.xml at 2,3465.
One tutorial suggested opening the archive manager to get to the xml file but I can't seem even to do that first step.
Any help getting this sorted is appreciated.
Thanks,
Neil

Re: Format Error
Can you post the file here or on a publicly available site. To post it here, click Post Reply and look for the Attachments tab just belwo the box where you type a response.
If you want to try fixing it yourself, the first step is to change the file extension to zip. If the file is currently named MyFile.odt, change it to MyFile.zip. You should then be able to open it with archive software and extract the content.xml file.

Re: Format Error
Hopefully I've attached the file to this reply. I have been trying to follow a tutorial on here to fix it myself but without much luck.
Thanks,

Re: Format Error
Here is what I recovered. The best way to avoid this error is to attach comments only to a single position in the text, not to a text range.

Re: Format Error in content.xml
Thanks a lot that seems to have worked. I was really struggling to follow the steps to fix this myself so couldn't have done it without you.
Thanks again,
Neil

Re: [Solved] Format Error in content.xml
This AOO bug can happen when a .odt file has two or more comments each attached to highlighted ranges of text (as opposed to a location in text).
If the user now
AOO (but not LO) then corrupts the file.
A bug report has been raised - see Issue 128356 - Track Changes and Annotations on text range can cause corruption. Applies to 4.x (all versions?).
If you use Record changes and Comments you are strongly recommended to swap to LO where the bug has been fixed.
If the user now
- keeps Edit > Record Changes ON
- deletes text containing two ranges with comments attached to those ranges
AOO (but not LO) then corrupts the file.
