[Solved] How to paste a text url into Apache OpenOffice Writer?

When I copy a url from a website and paste that into AOO (like a YouTube video url), AOO pastes a clickable link with the page title for text. I want the direct text url, that starts with "http". See, I often save what I write in AOO, and then copy and paste this into a message board/forum. So I need it to show the actual url, not some page title which makes the link unclickable in the forum I paste into. AOO never used to do this.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

This is a problem with the copy, not the paste. If you're using Firefox, right-click the link on the Web page and select "Copy Link", then paste in Writer.

Hi Bill, thanks for your reply!

I use Edge and Chrome, and there is no option when I right click on a link in the top bar to copy. The trick I use is to copy all but the initial "h" of "http:" and then paste that into AOO. When I paste into Mozilla Thunderbird, it gives me an option of how I want to paste when right clicking.

Try Ctrl+Shift+Alt+V.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the πŸ–‰ button if your issue has been fixed.

I will Hagar, but how do I paste the link with Edge or Chrome into AOO?

Did you try CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+V in AOO? What happened?

I don't have Chrome or Edge to test, but according to some Web sites, when you copy a URL from the Address Bar in Chrome or Edge, it is copied as a hyperlinked title. If you use the usual CTRL+V in AOO, the hyperlinked title is pasted. To paste the URL as text, you have to paste "text only". That is what CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+V does.

I always use the AutoCorrect customization for URLs to avoid unnerving procedures for links:

Thanks erbsenzah. I do have both boxes under ull recognition unchecked, and it still pastes the page title into AOO.

On Chrome, I copy the link (right hand mouse click - copy link) and insert (CTRL+V) as an unformatted text. I wonder why you don't succeed in this procedure...
Usually I would use Edit menu | PasteSpecial | Unformatted text

Stop using Edit > Paste or CTRL+V. That pastes a hyperlinked title. You have to use CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+V to paste the url as text only. This is not an AOO problem. It's a problem with Chrome and Edge that requires you to change the way you paste the URL in AOO and other apps.

Maybe I should have said that I did try first. With Edge, indeed a brute Ctrl+V pastes the page title (clickable).
The Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V shortcut however does what OP is asking for.
No need to make things more complicated than they already are.

So please try: select the url and in AOO, hit that Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V shortcut. That's all.

Ok, I tried it again today. It worked for Chrome! Thank you erbsenzahl. I must have done it wrong the other day, lol. :D

Bill, this did the trick on Edge! Awesome! I never even knew about this.

You know what Hagar Delest? Your first post was correct. I somehow misread it as Ctrl+Shift+V, not Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V, so obviously it didn't work. It was late, and I was tired, so I apologize for misreading it! Thank you.

Thank you LastUnicorn. I did this too, as I like when it shows everything. [I also select "show hidden folders" on Windows since I like that option.]

Hi LastUnicorn, sorry for not replying yesterday. I needed to get home to try this on my computer.

It worked! I love it. Now I don't even have to use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V on Edge! I am going to save this page for future reference.
