[Solved] How to import data from Mac Address Book

I want to make address labels using the facilities in OO but my address data is in my Mac OS X Address Book.

The address book only exports data in vCard format and I have been unable to determine a way to convert the vCard file into a database or table that OO can swallow.

Surely I am not the first person to want to do this - but searches on the regular OO forums and on the community forum yield no hits on this subject.

Can anyone help me?

Take a look at this article from the NeoWiki.

Basically you use a third party program to export your Mac OSX address book into a file format readable by Calc and use that as your data source. It won't update when you add or edit items in your Address Book, though.

There was a Google Summer of Code project to add direct access to the Mac OS X address book. According to Issue 79512 and Issue 79610, it will be included in OOo 2.4. It was added to NeoOffice's code beginning with version 2.2.1. It works quite well.

The address book exporter works great in the short term. Thanks. FYI, the article you linked to had a bad link to the gwenhiver.net page for the exporter .... but I was able to find the exporter by going to the home page .... after I get my Christmas cards out, I'll attempt to fix the wiki ... unless you want to do it.

Your reply also led me to become informed about NeoOffice which I wasn't aware of ... I owe you big time for that.

Your advice was extremely helpful. Thank you very much! :D
