[Solved] How to paste cells without breaking formula?

Post by heplee3 »

Can someone tell me how to copy & paste two cells, of which both contain formulas, without losing/breaking/changing the formula?

Here is the attached file explaining my problem in a very basic way.
Here is a screenshot in case you don't feel like downloading the file:

NOTE: It would be great if there was a checkbox added that lets you prevent a formula from being automatically changed.
NOTE: The bottom image had the Don't change Formula added via photoshop, that feature is not actually in the program.

The only solution I've found so far is to format all your formulas like this: ($B$19;$D$30) instead of (B19;D30) ... But that means I have to manually edit 100 cells and add the $, but fortunately there is an easy way to do this. Highlight all your cells that you want to add the $, then hold shift and press F4. While looking at your formula, keep pressing SHIFT F4, notice how it changes your formula constantly by adding and removing $ automatically. Nice feature.

Make your formula use absolute cell references.
