Cannot open pptx or docx in 4.1.7_MacOS_x86-64 or 4.1.8

I just installed OO on my Mac. Want to open pptx and docx files downloaded from dropbox. I tried opening them with OO 4.1.8 first and then 4.1.7 since I read in here that there is a bug in 4.1.8. However switching to 4.1.7 did not help. When I try to open the file from inside OO by going to "File" "Open" nothing happens.
What to do?
