[Solved]Document locked after blocking OpenOffice with Avast

Post by sigsky »

I was having this exact same problem but could not find any "locks" despite having hidden files viewable. This seemed to affect every speadsheet file.

After updating OO to the new version, Avast (my antivirus) warned me that soffice.bin was doing something and did I want to block it? Not knowing what was going on, I did. That is exactly when the problem started. After following the instructions in this thread to no avail, I decided to look at Avast's settings and found that, sure enough some sort of block had been established on OO. I deleted the block in Avast and then tried to open the spreadsheet again. The same soffice.bin warning appeared but this time I chose not to block it. The problem is now gone and Avast is no longer complaining. I'm guessing something in the new version of OO must have set off Avast. Hope this helps someone else.

Frequently a new version of OpenOffice, and indeed, many programs, will trigger alarms from anti-virius and malware programs; these will vanish with subsequent updates of the anti-virus or malware programs.
