[Solved] Another spellcheck problem

Post by jkarran »

I'm getting wiggly red lines under everything I type in Writer and Calc. New files and old ones which used to work fine. It's a fresh install of a new version after I tried several suggested fixes from other similar threads and tutorials to no avail. I've had similar issues before, usually a full reinstall of the latest version works but not this time :crazy:

It seems to think English (UK), which is what I want, is available (among other versions of English) and selected, I guess it was bundled with the installer?

Installing a New Zealand English dictionary from extensions.openoffice.org gets rid of the wiggles but I want English English working again.

I can't find a standard (UK) English dictionary download on extensions.openoffice.org, nor a complete (UK, US, OZ etc) English bundle. I guess mine is corrupt or not actually installed despite appearing to be? Could the new install be using a corrupt old dictionary? How can I uninstall any existing dictionaries (only the NZ one shows up in extension manager) and reinstall working versions?

Cheers, James

Thanks, not sure why I couldn't find that!

Anyway, it won't install, I get the following error box which hopefully sheds some light:

Add Extension(s):
C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages\svg9e6s2.tmp\dict-en.oxt does not exist

I can't answer the problem, but I suggest as a workaround that you try downloading and installing an earlier version of the English dictionary, then after restarting OpenOffice, install the new version.

I thought I had cleared my user profile.

I deleted a folder called OpenOffice.org after uninstalling OO, I guess maybe I followed an outdated tutorial? Anyway, the correct folder has been removed and automatically recreated. My dictionary is once again working.

Thank you both

This is the error message that appears when you try to re-install a dictionary that is already configured in the user profile but can't be found in the user profile. This is the situation that causes all words to be underlined. Reinstalling OpenOffice will never fix this problem because reinstalling does not alter the user profile in any way. Resetting the user profile removes the configuration so the dictionary can be re-installed.
