Change default font

aloha, thank you for your help. How do I change the default font for OpenOffice 4; 17 ? I would like to change it to Helvetica Neue, but can't figure out how to do this simple procedure. Mahalo. Joe

What application did you meant?
All of applications (Writer, Calc, etc...) have Default templates. These applications contains Default Styles (Writer: Character styles, Paragraph styles ...; Calc: Cell styles... etc...)
You must modify and organize these Templates: (save them after the modification, and set them as Default Templates)

thank you. How do I find the default template settings? I just want to change the font that appears in documents.
Could you please lead me through what steps I need to click on to accomplish this? Mahalo!

How do I find the default template settings?
You can find them in the default template: in every new, empty, unnamed document, what was created by the File - New menu item (based on the Default template).
Just modify the properties of the relevant styles in that new "file", and then save it as a Template (into .ott, .ots file format instead of the .odt, .ods).
Finally organize the file as a new Default template. Please read theese topics:
