The Android way to start selecting text is to hold your finger (or stylus) down until handles appear. My problem is that, most of the time, the popup menu comes up instead. I haven't been able to tell why I get the menu or the handles. It's a big nuisance. I hope you've discovered the secret.

AndrOpen is not an officially supported port of OpenOffice. You should address your query to the person responsible for the port.

For the record, Collabora Office for Android is kind of official Android port of LibreOffice (not of Apache OpenOffice, of course), reports relating to Collabora Office are handled by LibreOffice Bugzilla. Try it.
