Images Invisible

Hi, I've been working on this presentation, but for some reason all of my images have disappeared except for a couple of new ones that I added, they all show the size of the image as an outline, this image icon and '...' next to it. Some images I copied and pasted from Google Images, but some I had saved as a file and dragged them in, so it's not to do with their links. I tried going through Tools > Options > Memory and allowed more but it didn't change anything. I closed it and reopened, nothing changed, it's all the empty images. You can see on the Slides list it's happened to them all except new ones that I've added, does anyone know how to fix it? I've not moved the file or anything, I was just working on it and next time I checked they'd all disappeared, they don't even show in Slide Show mode either.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

AOO is quite sensitive to pictures insertion method. The best method is to save the picture first on your hard drive and then to insert it with the dedicated icon in Impress or as a general manner with the menu Edit>Insert>Picture>From file.

All other methods like drag and drop or copy paste can lead to such issue.

Note: I've embedded the pic in your previous post. Lower resolution but enough to describe the issue.

See Item 16. Lost images ... and a word of caution about using AutoRecovery. LibreOffice 6.1 may now be better than AOO in [Tutorial] Some useful hints on using images .

1. rename your file from fred.odp to fred.zip
2. Double click it
3. go to the Pictures folder

If the missing image is not there you have lost it as in Item 16.

Thanks guys

I renamed it to infected.zip but it just opens as an OpenOffice Impress file still, so does that mean there's no way to retrieve these images and I have to find them all again? Seems like a daft issue...

Working in Windows:

1. rename your file from fred.odp to fred.zip
2. From Windows double left-click the file fred.zip
3. go to the Pictures folder

What do you mean from Windows? I renamed it and double clicked it in the Windows file explorer but it just opened in OpenOffice

Try a right click and Open with and then select an archive manager. If you've installed 7zip, it should propose you to open it with 7z, even if it has not been renamed.
But make a copy of your file before, just in case.

Note that I didn't reply on your main question: sadly, I fear that all the links and pics are lost. The file size should be a good hint on the volume of pics stored inside.

Double left click the fred.zip file - now look in the Pictures folder.
