I just set up a new iMac and installed LibreOffice. I have used this program for years on my MacBook Pro. But it is running really slowly and sometimes not even opening files on my new machine. I have 8 gb ram on the iMac and will be adding 32 mb in a couple of days. But I am surprised that would make such a difference.
Also, it says it has Java RE already in it. Yet when I try to build a new database, it says I need JDK.
Thanks.

Re: new install running too slow on new iMac
No ideas as to the slow running, but in regards to the Java ensure that you have the correct java version (32 or 64 bit) that matches the LibreOffice version you are using.
Off topic, it's a good idea to update your forum signature using the User Control Panel so that it matches what you are actually running.
Currently it shows you to be running OpenOffice 3.3.0 on Mac OS 10.8.5

For Java, you might also have a look at [Tutorial] Mac FAQ Q06/A06 and perhaps Troubleshooting Open/LibreOffice and Java.

I hate this damn computer, I wish that I could sell it.
It won't do what I want it to, Only what I tell it.

Re: new install running too slow on new iMac
Try the LibreOffice. Most of the applications (Writer, Calc, Draw) and the features of the LO can work without Java.
I never use the Base, threfore I have not any experience nor information of the Java dependency of the LO Base.
