[Solved] Cannot be opened: developer not verified «Q05»

Post by viningc »

I am using an iMac with macOS 10.15.3. My Norton Internet Security isv8.5.5.

There used to be a way to "force" an application to run but I've recently suffered a stroke and have enough trouble just typing this question.

The error message reads:
"OpenOffice.app" cannot be opened
because the developer cannot be verified.

macOS cannot verify that this app is free
from malware.

Firefox downloaded this file today at 08:33 from
sourceforge.net

I really need my OO back! Any help would be appreciated.

Reason: Changed subject, was: OO will not run because NIS claims it is unident...

OK, I got it.

Under System Preferences / Security & Privacy / General, there was an option to open an app by "forcing" it to open. Once opened, it will continue to be accessible.

This is probably the Mac Gatekeeper at work.

For a solution read Q05/A05 in the Mac FAQ

Thank you. That would have been an alternate solution. My option also didn't require me to access the Applications folder.

This also gets a mention in the Installation instructions for Mac with a link to this Mac Support article from Apple.
