[Dropped] "Move OpenOffice to Applications" repeatedly shown
There's a popup screen when installing new OpenOffice that allows for moving the app to the Applications folder on a Mac laptop. Problem is that this popup screen now repeatedly appears whenever I navigate to the Documents folder on my laptop using Mac Finder, though OpenOffice was installed and running for a long time. It seems there's something in the Documents folder that triggers this, it's not triggered by starting OpenOffice or opening a particular file. Don't understand...

Re: Popup repeatedly appears "move openoffice to application
Hi, and welcome to the forum.
The only topic vaguely similiar I can think of is: [Solved] OpenOffice does not install. Did you follow the release notes for installing OpenOffice? You get those from the Downloads page. If not, why not, and what did you do instead? The previous link is about someone who thought they knew how to install, but was doing it wrong. Yours seems to be a one-of-a-kind problem.
In ten years on the forum I have never heard of this problem. From what website did you download OpenOffice?rfd48 wrote:Problem is that this popup screen now repeatedly appears whenever I navigate to the Documents folder on my laptop using Mac Finder
So, navigating to Documents in Finder used to work, and now you have this problem? What did you change? Did you install a new release of MacOS? If so, which one specifically? Add that information to your forum signature; it's important! Have you reinstalled OpenOffice since the trouble began? Did you get a new computer? Did you install any other new software, say anti-virus? Only you know what has changed!rfd48 wrote:OpenOffice was installed and running for a long time
This screen is a normal part of the installation when you open the downloaded DMG file. ([Tutorial] Mac FAQ Q03/A03). Did you File → Eject the DMG file after you installed OpenOffice? Did you move the DMG file to the Trash after you installed OpenOffice? If you did those things it's hard to imagine how MacOS can display a screen that was in the installation file DMG.rfd48 wrote:There's a popup screen when installing new OpenOffice that allows for moving the app to the Applications folder on a Mac laptop.

Re: Popup repeatedly appears "move openoffice to application
Thanks for the very fast reply. I know the screen is a normal part of installation. I used it when installing and, not sure why this matters but, I have a few earlier versions of OpenOffice in the Applications folder at the moment. There were no problems during any install. Last one was 6-9 months ago and the problem with the popup screen happened seemingly spontaneously a few weeks ago. No changes to OpenOffice or MacOS around this time. I scanned my whole file system to remove any .dmg files relating to OpenOffice or anything else for that matter and found none. There is no sign of a un-ejected .dmg file left over from some prior installation. I downloaded OpenOffice from the Apache web page for OpenOffice. I did not scan through the release notes, to be honest, because the installs have been routine in the past and I never was looking for any particular new fix or feature, etc.
Sorry if my original post was a little vague about the problem. I can't understand any mechanism that would cause this problem, and only when I first navigate to my Documents folder using the standard Mac Finder program.

I'm not a Mac user so take my suggestion in that light. I think the fix for the problem is in the last post in the
[Solved] OpenOffice does not install
thread.

This information may be related to your problem. Enable Show all filename extensions (Q52/A52). Provide the full file names of these versions in the /Applications directory.rfd48 wrote: I have a few earlier versions of OpenOffice in the Applications folder at the moment
Review Q22/A22. I will not reply again until you provide your MacOS version.MrProgrammer wrote:Add [your MocOS version] to your forum signature; it's important!
