(Question deleted: found answer)
Edit: RoryOF: Question reinstated as it may help others:

OpenOffice is displaying two pages side by side; how to get to single page display?
Next question. I opened a document and edited it, but when I went to save it, OO wouldn't let me, saying that the "document was opened as read-only, and can't be saved".

This is a new one on me. What do I do, please?

Thank you.

Harry

Three icons at bottom right of screen. Click on single page icon and adjust the scaling slider beside then, or /View /Zoom

Thanks, Rory. I actually managed to find that myself, a rare bit of observation skill for me!

Now I have another problem, which I edited into this post, before you replied. sorry.

Please do not delete a question, as it renders the entire thread and the effort of those who answer utterly pointless. Also, post only one question to a thread.

You may find many Mac-related answers in
Mac Tutorial

A file locked message is often due to that file not having been properly closed after a previous editing session. This may leave a hidden lock file in the same folder as the file. I have no doubt that the Mac Tutorial will tell how to deal with that.

Noted. Apologies, Rory. Thanks again.
