[Solved] Table of Contents -- Front matter page numbering

Sorry for the bother. I think I should be able to find the answer, but I haven't and hope you can help. (Using Apache OpenOffice 4.1.5 on Windows 10.)
I have a book with front matter's page styles distinct from book's body. In the front matter headers I inserted the page number (Insert > Fields > Other -- Document tab, Type > page) and selected Roman (i, ii, iii) as the Format. Beautiful, Just the way I want it. BUT, the Roman numerals don't carry over to the ToC. I know there must be some description of how to automatically have the ToC pick up the formatting, but I can't find it.
Is there any way, short of manually reformating the ToC to get the Roman numerals into the Table of Contents?
Thanks to anyone who can point me to the solution.
