Opening "word" documents in openofficewriter
I am a new user and have tried to follow the tutorials. i can make new document s fine on the writer but can not open and edit my "word" documents from my hard drive. Opening them directly they still go to word and then falter as it has expired. If i open them via writer iam asked to select a filter and none of these, after multiple tests, seems to open anything but a blank document. I was under the impression that you could open adn edit word documents in writer. Please could some one advise me on what iam doing wrong. IS it installed incorrectly? I chose the option to make openoffice my default for word/excel and powerpoint doc, but this doesnt seem to have happened. I am using windows vista as theop system. The laptop is 2007 bought so a recent version. The 3 month office trial ran out and i was h0ping to convert to openoffice but now am unsure. sorry for the waffle . hope you can help t hank you tom
