As discussed here:
http://www.nzgames.com/forums/showthrea ... ost1538787
set up a document so that images are linked (create new html document, save as OO). insert images, save.
double click an image and on the 'picture' tab click the "..." button to browse for a file location. in there you can choose to enable or disable link or choose to have a preview or not.
the setting for toggling preview is saved, but NOT the setting to toggle linking.
Toggling linked images broken
Re: Toggling linked images broken
I'm afraid it's not quite clear what the end goal is, nor what the problem is.
Are you interested in having the state of the "Link" check box be preserved the next time you insert an image? Or are you interested in what that option actually does?
What do you expect the "Link" check box to do? What effect are you expecting?
Is your question related to the original problem in the other thread, or are you after something different?

Re: Toggling linked images broken
What a horrible thread. Not only does it give the wrong information for un-linking the 300+ images, it contains some extremely crude retorts. Makes me very grateful for more polite and professional forums like this one. The proper way to unlink images is to go into Edit> Links, select all entries and click Break Link.
Like acknak, I'm confused about what "toggle linking" means. Do you expect to re-link the unlinked image files? Would it work to just tick or untick the Link box in the Insert dialog when you insert images?MadEngineer wrote:set up a document so that images are linked (create new html document, save as OO). insert images, save.

sorry, i did search but didn't see anything relevent. the other thread that appears a few below mine is not related.acknak wrote:I'm afraid it's not quite clear what the end goal is, nor what the problem is.

the document, when saved doesn't save the images in the document. they're linked to just as html does. ie, deleting the file for the image in the document means the image is lost from the document, or when inserting a 5 meg image into the document, the document stays at at only a few kb.
shouldn't toggling the link button save the image data into the document rather than keeping it as a linked item?

it appears that once the image is inserted, you can't use that dialog box to "Link" or un-linkImages
OpenOffice supports two kinds of images: linked and embedded.
Linked Images
To add a linked image to a document select the "Insert -> Graphics -> From File..." menu option. Select the "Link" option so that OpenOffice will create a relative link to the image; this is equivalent to using <img src="filename.ext"> in HTML. It is best to keep the image files in the content directory, and use the Binary content-type to copy them into the destination directory (this is configured by default for .jpg, .png, and .gif files). This ensures that the relative links generated in the resulting HTML are correct.
It is also possible to link to an image on an external system. To do this use the "Link" option described above and select any image file on your system. Once this has been inserted into your document, double click on the image to bring up the Graphics dialogue box. Select the "Graphics" tab, and then put the URL of the image into the File name box. Select the "Type" tab, and then press the "Original Size" button to make OpenOffice take the correct image size.
Embedded Images
If the "Link" option is not selected when an image is inserted, then OpenOffice will take a copy of it and embed it into the document.
you'd have to excuse that thread and or forum i linked to - as a community we often speak our own languages.
Re: Toggling linked images broken
You can unlink all images at one time by choosing Edit> Links. Select all listed items (or all pictures, or only those items you want embedded) and click the Break Links button.MadEngineer wrote:the document, when saved doesn't save the images in the document. they're linked to just as html does. ie, deleting the file for the image in the document means the image is lost from the document, or when inserting a 5 meg image into the document, the document stays at at only a few kb.
