Can I use a Button to open a picture?

Post by iamconfused »

I have been working hard and have completed most of my spreadsheet with lots of trial and error and this forums assistance but I have one more problem.
I can put a hyperlink into a cell so when I click on it it will open a picture but then the path is always shown. I would rather have a button on the cell that I could click to open and release to close or better yet click again to close but even through numerious attempts I can not make it work. Is this possible or not.
Please let me know, in simple terms what I will need to do.
Thank you

You can't make a picture pop up and down with the mouse button, but you can make a link that opens the picture when you click on the link.

Insert > Hyperlink >
(type): Document;
Document/Path: (click the icon to browse to your image file);
Further settings/Text: "Show Picture" (or whatever you want);
Click "Apply".

When you click on the link, the image will open in whatever your system uses as the image viewing application. It could be your browser.

That may not be such a nice approach. If you only have a few images, Instead, you can insert the images in your spreadsheet (Insert > Picture > From File), and then make a link to the picture. When you click on the link, Calc will switch to the sheet with the picture. You can add a link beside the picture to go back to the main sheet.

That has the advantage that the images are all included in your spreadsheet file--they can't get separated--but it does make the spreadsheet document larger, so it can be unwieldy with lots of images stuffed in.
