[Solved] Grouping of two text-segments

Post by molesarecoming »

Hello,
this time Word freaked me out to such lenghts that i decided to finally give Open-Office a go.
My question is, is it possible somehow to group two text-segments together, so that they won't be separated at the end of a page?
Im currently writing a book and im using fragmented passages, and those will be aligned nicely over the pages, but then i also use headings with some text that follows. The layout is much like in the Bible. The textblock after the heading again will be aligned, but the heading itself will be left over at the end of a page. I wish i could bind these two parts together, that would make it easier alot, since i would not have to control each and every page for every little change i make.

Here's an example of what it looks like:
Page 1:
Heading
--------------------
[INITIAL] bla blab labbalbalblababla
--------------------
blablablbalablbalbalba

blablbalbalblab

lbalbalblaba

Heading

Page2:
--------------------
[INITIAL] bla blab labbalbalblababla
--------------------
blablablbalablbalbalba

etc.
Best Regards,
Paul

If I get you right this should work:
Format your headings with a heading style (Heading 1, Heading 2 etc.)

1. Put the cursor on a heading.
2. Press F11 to open the Styles list. Spot the headings in it and double click for instance Heading 1. The heading will be formatted as Heading 1. (Usually used for chapters).
3. Right click the heading style you selected and click Modify in the drop-down menu.
4. Make any changes in the formatting (Font, size, etc.). Here comes the part that solves your problem. Click on Text Flow (one of the tabs) and check Keep with next paragraph (below left). Click OK to save your changes.

If this solves your problem, please edit the first post of this thread (Edit button) and add [Solved] to the subject line.
LibreOffice 25.8.4.2 on Ubuntu Linux
If your problem has been solved or your question has been answered, please edit the first post in this thread and add [Solved] to the title bar.

The predefined Heading N styles already include "Keep with next paragraph" (which they inherit from the "Heading" style), so you shouldn't have to change that. Just use the Heading N styles instead of "direct" formatting.

If you want to change the appearance of the heading, modify the style definition, don't use the mouse to modify the heading text directly. When you change the style definition, everything that uses that style will change also.

If you are working on a large project, it would really pay off in the long run to spend some time learning how styles work in OOo. They're quite different than in Word (and most people say better). One place to start would be the Writer Guide, but you can also just make yourself a small test document and work out how to format it by experimenting.
