Hi,
I have the same problem with the .odt file: writer hangs when it opens the document.
I have removed all the internet links from the content.xml. But didn't work yet.
Than I have removed the style.xml. Didn't work yet.
After that I have removed the <office:automatic-styles> section from the content.xml file. Now the file will be opened but I have lost all
the formatting information. In that way the recovered information is quite useless.
Is there another solution to the problem?
File attached (without the image and mp3 files it links to).
Thank you for your answers,
Steffen

Re: Another Hanging document
I have split this off to a new topic: it would be very confusing to discuss two separate documents in one thread.

Re: Another Hanging document
The problem seems to be the table near the end of your document, the table with the headers: Martin Klára Theodor. Did you by any chance copy/paste that from a web page?
Using 2.3.1 on Linux, I was able to open your document and scroll through it, but OOo crashed on closing the document.
Using the current developer snapshot, I could open and close it successfully, although it was very sluggish in places (e.g. that table).
I cut out the table and put it in a separate document, and saved the remainder to a new document. That would open in 2.3.1, and I then "broke" all the image links, so they are now embedded in the document. That helps a lot with the sluggishness. I did the same thing with the small "table" document. Both documents open for me in 2.3.1.

Re: Another Hanging document
Yes, I did copy contents from web pages.
Now, the document opens without problems. Thank you very much.
Do you have any tipp what I could have done wrong or perhaps what I should do/avoid next time?
Thanks a lot, Steffen

Re: Another Hanging document
Tables in web pages often use nested tables. Until quite recently, OOo could not handle nested tables, so the feature is fairly new and still has some problems with some tables. In this case, the last column is "squished" very narrow and stretches over a page break. I think there's simply some feature of that table that confuses Writer.
Now I can't open the lekce_edit_x_24m5.odt file anymore with 2.3.1, where it did work before. The snapshot will open it though.
OOo often has trouble with content pasted from web pages. I usually start by pasting the content as "Unformatted text" and then re-formatting it in Writer
For tables, you can paste as unformatted text, then use Table > Convert > Text to table. That will get most of the layout, and then I adjust it from there.
I don't think that was causing a crash, but it was slowing Writer down a lot, making it hard to tell where the real problem was.
If you want to leave them as remote links, just ask and I'll try to make a copy that still has the original links.

Yes--well, not external files, remote files. There were many links to external files that should be on your local system, but there were also many links to remote files in your original document. That means that Writer has to load those images from the Internet in order to display them. I used Edit > Links to "break" the remote link, which means that the images are now stored in the document itself and no longer need to be loaded from the Internet.I don't understand what you mean with "I then broke all the image links, so they are now embedded in the document" ?
The images link to external files, don't they?
