Have you installed OOo fully, can you open a blank spreadsheet? Which version of Excel did you use? Normally, OOo 3.1. can open most of the excel files, including the latest version. Could you send me by e-mail your excel document, I will try opening it with Excel and return it to you at OOo Calc format. I have just sent you a mail with my e-mail.

Please don't post duplicate questions; have you read the Forum Survival Guide?

The "Filter Selection" dialog window means that OOo does not know how to handle that particular file; it's asking you how to proceed.

The only ways that might happen is (a) if you have an older version of OOo and the Excel file was from the newest MS Office. Since you say you just downloaded OOo, that seems unlikely. Or (b), that your Excel file is corrupted and broken somehow. Or (c), that your OOo installation was incomplete.

If your Excel file is not confidential, you can attach it here and someone else can take a look and make sure that it's ok. You can use the "Upload Attachment" link (below the message entry area after you click "POST REPLY"). [Forum] How to attach a document here

You can also try re-running the OOo installer and choosing either "repair" or "re-install". Make sure that you perform a complete install; don't try to install only certain parts of OOo. Whenever there's an installation glitch, I prefer to start over by specifically removing the package and then doing a fresh install.

Your file opens fine for me. It seems to contain macros, which OOo does not import, so there may be some functions missing once you finally get the sheet open.

I think trying to repair or re-install would be the next step.

You might want to remove your OOo settings profile as well and make a completely fresh start: [Tutorial] The OOo user profile

One final step for future users who may search this forum: edit your first post and add "[Solved]" at the beginning of the title and tick the green mark as well.
