UK Spell check in Linux

Post by John »

Hi: is it the case that there is no UK spell checker available for OO under Linux? I tried using the Download wizard within OO and got spell checkers for Canada and the US, and a thesaurus and hyphenation dictionary for UK but no spell checker for the UK. Have I missed something? Using PCLinuxOS. Appreciate the help. John

I can't speak for your Linux distribution, but in many distributions, you download new dictionaries using the distribution's package manager.

According to the http://docs.pclinuxos.com/ Wiki, the package manager used with pclinuxos is synaptic. Launch synaptic as an administrator and do a search for dictionary.

The UK dictionary may already be installed. Look in OpenOffice.org's installation directory under .../share/dict/ooo. If there is a file called en_GB.dic, you already have the British English dictionary.
