[Solved] Shift-F5 (restore editing view) not working

Post by frisil »

Hi,
I'm a hobby writer and recently switched to OpenOffice3, I've been using OO2 for years. Now there is one function I really need: Going back to the last position I've been working on in a document. With OO2 I could press shift-f5 to go back there after opening a document. This doesn't work in Open Office 3, I tried it with Sabayon4 and Mepis, so it does not seem distribution specific.

How do I get this neat function back? I really need it when working on larger projects so I don't have to remember which chapter of my book I was last editing (because I sometimes won't be able to write for days or even weeks, as it's just a hobby and I got other work to do)

I use version OOO300m9 (Build:9358) Build 3.0.0.3.5 on my productive system (Sabayon4)

I would be really glad if anyone could help me out here.

My OOo3.0.1 by Sun works as you expect.
While using Writer call menu:Tools>Customize... tab "Keyboard"
Click the big box labeld with "Shortcut Keys" and hit Shift+F5
If that shortcut is not bound to "Restore Editing View" then:
- in the top-right corner select radio button "Writer"
- select the Shift+F5 entry in the big box
- select category "View"
- select function "Restore Editing View"
- hit [Modify]

There are additional buttons to save all your shortcuts in a file and to restore them from the stored file. Use this feature. As far as I remember, you save one file for the each category "OpenOffice.org", "Writer", "Calc",... selected in the top-right corner-
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

AFAIK the "last working position" is maintained on a "per user" basis.

A consequence of that is that if you didn't enter personal info, the position is not stored. Try entering your name in the User data category of Tools-Options, and see if the behaviour is restored.

Even better, I don't even have to press shift-f5, it auto-restores my last position when I open a document!
