Re: How to disable autohide toolbar feature
You can't disable the behavior, but you can dock the toolbars. Click on the title area of the toolbar and drag it toward any side of the main window until you see a thick black outline appear. Release the mouse button. The toolbar will be fixed at that location when it appears.
For more information and tips on configuring these, see [Tutorial] Turning off Context-Sensitive Toolbars Sorry, that tutorial is no longer available.

Sorry, I wasn't real clear before.
For the context sensitive (CS) toolbars, your choices are:

For the context sensitive (CS) toolbars, your choices are:
- Accept the default setting -- toolbars come and go as needed
- Turn the toolbar off -- it will never be displayed
- Dock the toolbar -- it will come and go as needed but always in the same place, out of the way
- Make a new custom toolbar -- add the buttons from the CS toolbar; the new one is not CS

Re: How to disable autohide toolbar feature
In my experience, there are two ways to reduce the effect of the toolbars appearing and disappearing:
1. Have them docked at the bottom of the window - there is less redrawing when their come and go
2. Have them floating inside the document area. There's very little redrawing required here but they can get in the way if you have small monitor. You can drag the sides to change the shape from a toolbar to a toolbox if it helps keep them out of the way.

Re: How to disable autohide toolbar feature
To get around the OPs problem I created a new empty toolbar and docked on the side. This functions as a place holder to keep the side toolbar open. Then when I put the context-sensitive toolbar there, there's not much to redraw as it pops in and out of existence and the document text doesn't shift around.
(btw, I didn't do this for speed, but the constant shifting of the text as I moved in and out of bulleted and numbered lists was driving me crazy.)

Thank you so much!!!! You have no idea how irritating it was to have the display jump up and own like that. I hope that OOo will change this

Re: [Solved+Issue] How to disable autohide toolbar feature
How do you "turn the toolbar off so it will never be displayed"? I cannot seem to find this preference anywhere.
OpenOffice 3.3.0 installed on Mac OSX 10.6.8
Re: [Solved+Issue] How to disable autohide toolbar feature
While the toolbar is displayed, do View > Toolbars and un-check the toolbar. The toolbar will not be displayed after that.
Note: not all toolbars can be turned off.
