[Solved] Table of Contents for a PDF file

Post by Get Er Done »

Hi All

I am creating a PDF file using OpenOffice Writer to be used as a Users Guide for a program I have written. I have set the PDF export options to show the full height of the page when the PDF file is opened. I have everything working like I want except for one thing. I want to be able to display the full page of any link I click on in the Table of Contents.

Example: I am displaying the Edit Menu which shows the standard windows Cut, Copy, and Paste drop down menu items. The Cut menu item is displayed page 6 and the Copy and Paste are displayed on page 7 in my PDF file. I want to be able to display the entire full height of page 7 when I click on the Copy link in my Table of Contents. The top attachment shown below is what I see when I click on the Copy link in the Table of Contents. The bottom attachment below is what I want to see.

I know it can be done because I have other software that came with PDF files that do exactly that.

I would appricate any help for this post
Thanks

The option is on the Export as PDF dialogue in OpenOffice. Initial View, Magnification, Fit Visible.

Hi Again

Sorry I bothered you guys, but I found out what my problem was. I will explain anyway in case someone else wants to display their PDF file the way I wanted to.
I was trying to solve the problem with the Page Style editing feature for the page itself and by trying to change the setting by using the Editing Index/Table feature. In posting the message above about my problem, it got me to thinking that the solution might be in the PDF Options instead. It turned out I was right.

The following describes how to display a full height page when you click on any link in the Table of Contents:

1. Open the PDF Options window by clicking File/Export as PDF... from the OpenOffice Writer's main menu.
2. Select the Intial View tab.
3. Under Panes, select Bookmarks and page.
4. Under Magnification, select Fit in window
5. Under Page Layout, select Single Page.
6. Select the User Interface tab.
7. Under Window Options, place a check mark in the Resize Window to Intial Page check box.
8. Click on the Export button and OpenOffice Writer will update the PDF File.

I hope this helps someone else in the future.
Thanks to the authors for making a great affordable office software package.

Whoops... When I choose "Export as PDF..." - Next menu is making a file name, and clicking "Save" - Then the PDF Options menu box only allows for: Pages: All or Range - Compression: Screen or Print optimized or Press optimized - Then I can choose Export, Cancel or Help.

I do not see the full export choices pages as in document: 0510IG-PrintingEmailingExportingSaving.pdf - on page 6, starting with the first paragraph; the picture next, on the "General" tab has choices of Range, Images & General, of which I would like to choose "Export bookmarks" - Then the "Initial View" tab allows me to choose "Bookmarks and page".

I have OpenOffice ver 1.1.4 - Do I need an "update", or do I need a "plug-in"?

Update to 2.3.1.

You're using an ancient version. PDF handling and a large number of other features have vastly improved since then.
Cheers!

You were absolutely right: 2.3 is awesome. And to think I have been searching for a PDF program, and even doing the trials. OO 2.3 makes PDF a snap.

Thank you
