I am running Linux Mint Zena. I deleted LibreOffice and installed OpenOffice 4.1. I can open OpenOffice from a command prompt, but cannot get it added to the desktop.
P. S. I do not have a lot of computer/programming knowledge, but can follow instructions

Re: OpenOffice doesn't show on desktop
On my Linux Mint, if I click on the Linux Mint (lm) button at the lower left of the screen, select the Office category and right click on OpenOffice, there is an option to Add To Desktop. Does that work for you?

Re: OpenOffice doesn't show on desktop
On my Linux Mint, if I click on the LM button, and select Office, Open Office does not appear. I want to have Open Office appear when I select Office.

Re: OpenOffice doesn't show on desktop
"No such file" as desktop-integration
Here are the steps I used:
Step 4. Extract the downloaded OpenOffice package
Go to Downloads:
cd ~/Downloads
Extract the installation archive:
tar -xvzf Apache_OpenOffice_*.tar.gz
This should create a folder named en-US.
Step 5. Install OpenOffice
Enter the extracted installation directory:
cd en-US/DEBS
Install all the DEB packages:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
From the DEBS directory, enter:
cd desktop-integration**
Then:
sudo dpkg -i *freedesktop*.deb
** When I entered this command, I got "no such file"
I can launch openoffice from the terminal:
/opt/openoffice4/program/soffice
