[Dropped] Set MS Word as default save format

Post by stanspringers »

When I go to Options, Load/Save, General, the Always save as dropdown doesn't display Microsoft Word .doc as a previous install does. How can I get that option?

OpenOffice? LibreOffice? Current version? Operating System?
Word .doc in version 6.0 - 95 -97 ???
I cannot confirm your observation, neither in OpenOffice nor in LibreOffice.

EDIT
It is a bad idea to save each document in Word format. When you have to edit one so it is converted in internal ODF format, when saving it is converted again to DOC format.

Your forum signature says OpenOffice 4.1.16 on Windows l3. What is Windows l3?
If this is wrong fix your forum signature in User Control Panel → Profile → Edit Signature.

I see it in Options → Load/Save → General.
Load/Save → General dialog

Agreed. Setting your default to any of the Microsnot Word versions is asking for trouble. Always save in the native OpenOffice format, which is ODF Text Document (file.odt). If someone who has not installed OpenOffice needs to view your Writer document, use File → Export to PDF and send them the PDF. If you both have to edit the file, you should agree on which software you will use. Either both you use OpenOffice, or both of you use Word. Co-editing with different software risks data loss and inconsistent content that no one can help you with. If you ask, the response will be: use your backup of the file before it became damaged.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ✏️ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Definitely a bad idea to work in .doc format, for reasons stated above. Later versions of MS Word (2013 and later) support .odt format directly, with some omissions which Microsoft thought appropriate, but which may not affect most work.

Try working - both you and your colleague - in .odt format.
