[Dropped] Underline not showing

I highlighted a section of text and typed Ctrl-U - and nothing happened. No underline. Bold works, so do italics, subscript and superscript - but underline doesn't show.

Apparently this is a bug in LibreOffice as well. How do I rectify this?

Ctrl + U works for me on a Windows computer.
The first thing to check is whether that key combination is assigned to the underline command. Select the menu Tools -> Customize and the Keyboard tab. Scroll down through the shortcuts to Ctrl + U and check whether it is set to underline. If it isn't, click on the Ctrl + U entry, then click on the Format entry in the Category list and select Underline from the Function list. Click on the Modify button and you should see Underline assigned to Ctrl + U.

I can't replicate this in either OpenOffice 4.1.16 or LibreOffice 26.2.5.2, on Slackware 15/KDE.

Check Tools | Customise and select the Keyboard tab. Under Functions/Category select Format and see if Ctrl+U is set as shortcut for Underline.

Could be faulty settings, as others have also suggested. It was perhaps inherited from a previous AOO install on your system.

It could also be something in the graphics subsystems. A few things to look at:

• Does the underline tool on your toolbar appear activated after you press ctrl+U?

• Do you see an underline when you zoom in?
• Do you see an underline when in preview mode?
  Menu selection: File - Preview

Worth a try:

• Select menu item Tools - Options
• Select branch OpenOffice - View
• Toggle item Hardware acceleration

It is possible that you need to restart OpenOffice for this change to take effect.
