No access to my files

My operating system is Windows 11 and I have been using Version 4.1.15 since I downloaded the application last August.

Most of my recent work has involved three files contained in my DOCUMENT directory This folder is named Stream Family History.

Whenever I click on "OPEN" to gain access to my created files, this Stream Family History folder keeps re-appearing, so I am blocked from my OpenOffice files.

I deleted one of my ~ temp files, as instructed and tried to manipulate the PATH, but to no avail.

What must I do to remedy this problem? Thank you very much for your assistance.

Your issue is not very clear. Are you sure that the file is not opened in the background? When you say the folder is reappearing, does it mean that the file is not loaded and OpenOffice is merely closed immediately?

In many cases, LibreOffice can do better with a better integration with the OS. You should give it a try: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information. Check at least a portable version just to see if it's better.
The interface is almost the same, you should not be lost.

It's just as I tried my best to describe. When I click on "OPEN", I should see a list of my created files. This is NOT possible because my
"Stream Family History" folder within DOCUMENTS (from my hard drive) keeps appearing. I still have access to my files, but only via my DOCUMENTS folder, not OpenOffice itself.

OpenOffice remembers the last Folder used to Save a file. You should be able, using the usual file manager navigation buttons, to navigate from that folder up and across to any other folder, as one does in any windows application.
