Bottom of text missing when printed
I have a document that is smaller than A4. When I want to print it looks OK on the Print Preview and also on the print dialogue preview but in the left-hand column view is shows the bottom of the cut off and so is the printed copy. See screen shot.

Re: Bottom of text missing when printed
Could there be a mismatch between the sizes of the paper in your printer and your printer setting?
It does look from your picture that the top margin on the left looks relatively bigger than the other one - have you tried reducing the top margin for the page (the page style in OpenOffice)?

Thanks for your response. If I set the printer paper size to A4, which is larger than the actual page size, I'm asked to make the page fit the paper size. I don't want to do that. See image.

Re: Bottom of text missing when printed
Can you create a custom paper size in your printer to match whatever size you have defined in Writer?

In your destination paper size in that new image it says A5.

I don't think you have a choice. Since the page sizes do not match, there is a tradeoff to be made at some point.Jessiebessie wrote: ↑Tue Sep 23, 2025 9:23 am If I set the printer paper size to A4, which is larger than the actual page size, I'm asked to make the page fit the paper size. Your screenshots are hardly readable. Thanks to upload original size.

Re: Bottom of text missing when printed
Yes I could do that. Thanks for the tip.
I tried this but I cannot find a way to change the paper size. This link doesn't doesn't seem to apply to my printer.https://www.hjalp.ai/article/epson-prin ... justments/
I would have thought that if the page size was smaller than A4 then it should print the whole page at the correct size!
I have a file where the page size is A5 which I regularly print using A5 paper but just as an experiment I printed it onto A4 and it printed OK with no cutting off at the bottom!

I'm sorry the screen shot is too small but I save the screen shot as a jpeg and when I attach it I'm told the image is too large so I reduced it so it would attache. I'm I doing something wrong here?
Also in the 'Paper Handling' dialogue I don't seem to be able to change the 'Destination Paper Size' from A5. I can only 'Scale' up or down.

Use an image editor to reduce the colour depth of the image to say 64. Experiment with saving as .png and reducing the colour depth - you may get a smaller image.

Re: Bottom of text missing when printed
You want the destination paper size to be the paper size in the printer. For clarity you could tell us
-what paper size is in the printer
-what paper size is your document - the page style paper size
-what paper size is set in the printer settings
Sometimes A4 and US letter sizes get mixed up - US letter is not quite as tall but a little wider.
From the first picture there doesn't look to be room for the cut off line and margins so even if you shortened the top margin (you didn't respond to that suggestion) it wouldn't all fit.

Re: Bottom of text missing when printed
Thank you for your advice. I do not want to change the margins just so I can print. The idea of printing is to see what the page would look like.
Answers to your questions:
1 A4 = 210mm x 297mm
2 150mm x 230mm
3 That's my problem I do not know how change the printer settings!

If you're on Windows and have Acrobat Reader you could try exporting to pdf - I get the option to print the page the original size with that.

Re: Bottom of text missing when printed
I'm not using Windows, so can only offer a general suggestion.
On OpenOffice's Print dialog there should be a button to select Printer Properties: pressing this allows OpenOffice to tell the printer what paper size to use, whether landscape or portrait, whether duplex or not (if double sided printing is supported by the printer), what print tray, and other printer settings.
Do I remember correctly that there is also a configuration setting to allow OpenOffice to use either its own Print dialogs or those of the operating system? If so, I cannot find that setting; I use always OpenOffice's dialogs.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I am using MacOS if that helps.

Your second screenshot shows that you have selected to print Brochure in a print dialogue. That works OK when printer paper is set to A4, Horizontal (sometimes Landscape)(/File /Print /Properties button).

I should think the free Acrobat Reader for MacOS has the same feature.

You say you don't want to change the margins but if you set the paper size in OO to A4 and then widened the right and bottom page margins to give you the area you want to use (matching your original page size) - then wouldn't that give you what you want?

Re: Bottom of text missing when printed
Your document is smaller than A4, but the print settings aren’t scaling it to fit the paper. In your print dialog, enable “Fit to Page” or “Scale to Paper Size” so the whole page prints without being cut off.
