[Solved] JRE installed but not detected by AOO

Post by gfkeckler »

I have installed OO 4.1.15 and I tried using the Mail Merge Wizard and when I went to include my xlsx data file OO told me I needed to install JRE. I downloaded JRE and installed it. I then re-booted my laptop and tried again. I got the same error message. What do I need to do to get this to work?

AOO is a 32 bit program, so you need to install a 32 bit version of Java; you can have both 32 and 64 bit versions installed. Once this is done you need to configure AOO to use the installed 32 bit Java via Tools | Options | OpenOffice | Java.

There is much information in Troubleshooting Open/LibreOffice and Java including links for Java download.

Instead of installing a 32-bit Java, you can also install a 64-bit office suite that is up-to-date.
Since 14 years, LibreOffice is the legitimate successor to OpenOffice, which is walking dead.

There are several good reasons for switching from OpenOffice to LibreOffice anyway, some of which are mentioned here: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information
LibreOffice 25.8.1.1 (x64) installed to Windows 11 Pro. 25H2
Apache OpenOffice Portable 4.1.15 [Portable Apps]
For Java I use Adoptium Temurin JRE LTS Releases.
