[Solved] OpenOffice manager runs, but components freeze immediately
I've been using version 4.1.15 on Windows 11 for a long time without any problems, mainly use Calc. Now all of a sudden I can't get it to run. Double click, it opens and immediately freezes, with an hourglass, and shows "not responding". I saw the post here about removing the user profile, so I did that, but it does not help. Sill the same, immediately freezes after starting.
I don't normally use it, but I found that the OO manager app runs OK, and asks me to create a new profile. But when I run any of the apps from there, the result is the same, they immediately freeze up. Actually I found that the Database App does run, but complains that I don't have a JRE installed. But it doesn't freeze up like the other apps.
I couldn't find any other "fixes" for this issue, hopefully someone has an idea what to try.
TIA,
Dave

Re: OpenOffice Manager runs, but the apps freeze immediately
Hi and welcome to the forum!
There are several reports of issues with Windows 11. If part of AOO works, it's not an issue with security applications I guess.
You may try LibreOffice instead. See: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information.
Some don't like it but it's very close to AOO, they come from the same ancestor. And it now has much more dev manpower, thus better compatibility with evolving environments.

Thanks. It's been working for so long, until all of a sudden now. I guess I'll take a look at LibreOffice if no one has any ideas here.

Any significant change when it started to do that? A Windows update or something you have installed?

Nothing that I've been able to closely correlate to the day the problems started.
I just downloaded and installed LibreOffice, and when I launch it, none of the apps will run, I get the startup banner and it just freezes and never completes. I'm using all my other usual apps without any problems. Maybe some common file or setting that effects both OpenOffice and LibreOffice?

Well, in that case, there is something preventing them to run correctly.
Can you check the security settings? Maybe they need to be white listed. I don't recall that on Windows 11 (from the topics in the forum). But it may be something under way...

Could it be linked to S mode?

Re: OpenOffice Manager runs, but the apps freeze immediately
Wow this is strange. So I rebooted Win 11, and both OpenOffice And LibreOffice are working now. So maybe if it was a corrupt user profile, and when I then deleted the user profile, a reboot was required afterwards? Or there was some other problem going on with Windows that the reboot cleared. I did reboot a couple times since the problem started, and it didn't make a difference. I also turned off internet and disabled all security settings even though nothing appeared to be blocked. Apps still would not run. So I reenabled them. Something cleared the issue. Anyway hopefully it keeps working now.
Thanks for your help Hagar.

No reboot needed after this kind of operation.Whiskey@lpha wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 3:15 pm So maybe if it was a corrupt user profile, and when I then deleted the user profile, a reboot was required afterwards?
You may have stumble upon a series of operations inside Windows like silent updates that messed up with some applications.
Hopefully it is indeed solved.
