How can I grab the background image from my Writer file, and save it to my PC? I know how I added it, but I can't figure out how to "get back there" to save the graphic. Looking around Format/Page/Background I see nothing useful. "Browse" takes me nowhere.
I no longer have the image in my PC, and it would be annoying to have to rescan the image and edit it all over again.
(Answer: Open the .odt file with 7zip, and grab the image from the "Pictures" folder!)

Not sure if this is what you're after for a 'background image' but for an ordinary image right-click on the image and select Save Graphics...

Else, open your .odt file with an archive manager (it's a mere zip file), then there should be a Pictures folder where are stored the pics.
Thus you are sure to get the original picture (at least the one saved when integrated as the background).

Using the Print Screen button on your keyboard you can also make a bitmap copy of what's showing to the clipboard - simple, but there may be loss of quality depending what format/size the orignal image was.

Re: Save current background image to PC
Never would have thought an .odt could be opened with 7zip. Hwot? There's my image, just as Hagar said. Thanks!
LastUnicorn: Yes, that definitely works with images on the top layer, but not the background. Thanks though.
JeJe: True about the quality loss.

That's the benefits of open format like ODF, used by OpenOffice, LibreOffice and many other applications.
Not sure if it was scheduled for MS Office too, or if they did that to catch up with opensource, but their OOXML format is also XML files packaged in an archive, with the .docx/xlsx... extension.

Re: [Solved] Save current background image to PC
To avoid the need to unZIP the file, after first saving the document in ODT format, you can use File → Save As → HTML Document. This saves the page background image separately from the HTML document that's created. For example if I save the document as Foo.html, Writer also creates Foo_html_72f2ac9e.jpg, the page background image, in the same directory.
