[Solved] New sheet does not use expected cell borders

Post by jraju »

Hi,
I have the problem ofviewing grid lines. I selected all and then applied a thick border and saved as a template. that was saved as correct for the active sheet, but adding sheet do not have this template. I went to the Manage template and then select my named template and mark it as ,default for all the future sheets and workbooks.I could not make it, as it shows on only one sheets that I have selected this to apply. Please say, how could i make this template as default for all my workbookds and sheets

Don't apply the borders to the cells directly. Modify the Default cell style to have the borders you want, then save the file as the default template. To modify the cell style, select the menu Format -> Styles and Formatting (or choose the Styles pane in the Sidebar), right click on the Default cell style and select Modify.

That isn't how templates work. A template provides the settings for the spreadsheet document, not for a sheet. Here's an example:

Say the template T has one sheet. When you open the template you get a new spreadsheet S. S will have one sheet. If you add a second sheet, it's properties come from the styles in the template, not from the first sheet's properties in the template. It can't get the second sheet's properties from the template because the template only has one sheet. If you want a second sheet to contain properties from the first one you can open template T and use Edit → Sheet → Move/Copy → Copy → To Document → S to create another sheet in your document. If you want your new documents to have ten sheets, all with the same properties, create a 10-sheet template. You can have more than one template: File → New → Templates and Documents → select.

If the goal is just to make cell borders thicker all you need to do is change the Default style in your template, as previously suggested. Any new sheet will inherit that.

Hi, just by selecting duplicate sheet, i could just copy as next sheet, etc. etc. I want all lthe sheets, that i will open must be haing clear view of grid , as i change the sheet1. If i open any new workbook, work book shows thick line in sheet1. I want it tbe a default template. I think i made it clear now

I am having the latest version of libre office hi, fjcc. i do not find the exact menu as you say in my version or I am missing something. I have appliled the borders in a open workbook on the first sheet and saved this as a template and saved the excel file. It has asked a name , i have given grid thick as name, selected My Templates and clicked save this as default template check box and then saved it. Now the sheet1 has the bordered template sheet. Iok. Now I select, the same template and now click modify, and when i select my grid thick template,it shows me to make changes and save it as a different file. What I want is , i want all the default sheets and workbooks if i add should have the same grid thick borders . This is the reason for my query. Admin has changed my topic to a well meaning topic. thanks

Did you modify the Default cell style? That is what you need to do in the template. If your menus are different, use the LibreOffice help to find how to modify a cell style.

For LibreOffice 24.n you'll find it under Format | Cells.

Sorry, that doesn't address the question. View | Styles then right click on the Default cell style and select Modify.
