[Solved] Insert second image; it overwrites first one

Post by PencilGal »

Hi

I have become fairly adept at using OO Writer to assemble a photo dense book, export as PDF and upload to Amazon for self publishing. I opened an existing file to work on it and added a photo using Insert Picture. Then I added another. The second overwrote the first image. I looked around for it thinking it had popped off somewhere because I hadn't protected the position. But it was gone. CTRL Z worked to get back to where I was (with the first image in place). In the picture settings, I protected the position and contents. And tried again to add a second image. The image landed on top of and deleted the first.

I am wondering if anyone knows what might be happening. I could not find anything like this in the search and have not encountered it before.

Pencilgal.

If the first image is selected when you use Insert → Picture → From File, Writer will replace that image with a new one. To insert an additional image ensure that no image is selected. If you need any additional assistance attach a document demonstrating the difficulty (remove confidential information then use Post Reply, not Quick Reply, and don't attach a picture instead of the document itself). Explain, for the Writer document that you are attaching, exactly the steps needed to replicate the problem. The attachment doesn't need to be the document you're working on, which may have many images and be too large to attach, just one which demonstrates the problem for us.

Reminder: The Navigator (F5) will show you the graphics in your document. Read about the Navigator in Help → OpenOffice Help → Index → Navigator;working with.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ✏️ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

This issue is likely due to overlapping anchor points. After inserting each image, ensure they’re anchored separately (right-click the image > Anchor > To Page/Paragraph) and adjust their positions. You can also use frames (Insert > Frame) to keep images independent and prevent overwriting.

Define this by default with AncDef

each image was anchored to paragraph, each separately. That is not the issue. I believe it is the issue of having an image selected when another is added.
