[Solved] Multi-cell selection causes "Not responding" message

Post by UltravioletOasis »

Windows 11 - "new" refurbished Lenovo ThinkStation; Core i5, 32 GB memory, O/S on SSD, personal files on external hard drive. I have used Open Office for years and never had a problem, from XP to 7 to 10. Even if the only app running is Open Calc, if I select more than one cell at a time, Calc freezes up, and I get a "Not Responding" message. I honestly feel that my system hardware or software is at fault and not Calc itself. However, I have no idea as to what I need to check on my system. I can run Google Chrome browser with fifteen tabs open and Photoshop at the same time; no problem whatsoever. This freezing up in Calc is my only problem.

This is a wild guess and only relevant for Windows 11 sold in North America. Windows 11 has a new Clipboard Manager - go to Start > Settings, Click Clipboard on the System tab and turn off Suggested Actions; if that doesn't help, try turning off Clipboard History

This has been known to fix problems with copying, and I wonder if it might help with selecting cells. As I say, it's a long shot; if it helps, please let us know.

That was exactly what was called for! I use Calc all the time and I was right about blaming WIndows 11.

Thanks ever so much! I would have never figured that out on my own.

Interesting; this is the first time I've seen a report where an actual copy/paste attempt wasn't involved.

This has been one of the rare times in which a forum post of mine was so quickly and correctly addressed. I am very grateful.
