[Solved] Put document path/file name in header/footer

Post by FOSTER »

Before I print a spreadsheet or text document I always type in at top or bottom of sheet the sheet location as a File Reference…so that when I look at my print I can easily find the original file should I wish to modify/edit in future.

Is there an automatic means of obtaining this file reference in the app?…. for insert into spreadsheet/document.

Eg. iMac/OpenOffice folder/Financial folder/Sample.odt

Headers and Footers in Calc. In particular, see the section Setting the Contents of the Header or Footer.

Thank you…

I have succeeded inserting file ref. on spreadsheet via your link options by editing/customising header/footer but I’m unable on text doc…since don’t get same option to edit/customise footer, other than manually typing in a file ref.
With spreadsheet there is a drop-down box to customise with full file ref. available as an option!

This is the Calc forum, and you have a solution for Calc, so I will just give a brief answer for Writer. Save the Writer document, since you cannot show the path and file name until it's been saved. The footer is part of the page style. I will assume you are using the Default page style. The footer occurs in every page which uses that page style.

Insert → Footer → Default. The text cursor is now positioned in the footer.
Insert → Fields → Other → Document → File name → Path/File Name → Insert → Close.

Read these tutorials if you are not familiar with Writer page styles. Open a new topic in the Writer forum if you need help with Writer page styles. You risk having your topic locked if you ask further questions about Writer here.
