I want to copy data from one table (from Calc) and fill it into another table (Writer one) (into different cells) but with no luck so far, only time it worked is when I copied the data from the same table back into the very it again
Is there really no way to do this seemingly super-simple operation with a state-of-art office software?

I can't find a direct way to copy from a spreadsheet into a Writer table. It can be done in a multi-step process.
Copy the Calc cells
Do Paste Special -> Unformatted Text into a regular text area (not a table) of a Writer document. It can be a different document than the one that will have the final table.
Select that text and use the menu Table -> Convert -> Text to Table (using tab as the separator) to make a table
Copy the cells of the new table into the original table in your Writer document.
OpenOffice 4.1 on Windows 10 and Linux Mint
