I have one powerpoint presentation that when opened some of the text is set to 18 and runs way off the screen. When I click on it to change it, its already set at 18. I have to reclick on 18 to get it back to original size. This is happening in every PPT I open

MS Office file formats are not well documented, especially the deprecated formats ppt, doc, xls. Thus the import filter may have some glitches.
You can try LibreOffice, which has a better compatibility with MS Office file formats. See [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information.
However, if you need to work with ppt/pptx, then better stick to MS Office.
