[Solved] Annoying edit marks underline all text

I have been using Open Office for years and now suddenly I find my .doc files have a red squiggly underline that I can't seem to find an OFF toggle.

Seems to be like an editing mark but can't turn it off.

Please, what am I missing?

A curly red underlining is always used for misspelled words. As your text is error free (I opened it just fine, no errors marked), your dictionary for English is probably compromised, or rather your user profile. The curly underlining only pops up when you have Spell checking as you type enabled (toggle it with Shift+F7). I find it a very useful feature, and it's rather odd that you don't seem to know it as it has been around for some 20 years by now, give or take a few. To fix it, reset your user profile. As you seem to be using Microsoft .doc format for your file you might like to know that LibreOffice offers better support for Microsoft file types. For example, LibreOffice can handle .docx documents, though it isn't perfect. So you should maybe think of switching to LibreOffice. P.S. It's usually a bad idea to save your work as .doc, or .docx. For all Writer work it is best to save as .odt file type and only save as a Microsoft file type if you have a pressing need to send your document to someone else who is using a very old version of Microsoft Office. Versions of Microsoft Office, from Office 2016 onwards, can open .odt files anyway, though possibly imperfectly, so there may be no need at all to save your Writer document as a .doc or .docx file.
