[Solved] Page numbers for Portrait and Landscape

Post by Richard1001 »

1 file. 5 sheets. Sheets 1 & 2 are portrait orientation. Sheets 3, 4, & 5 are landscape.

Created a Landscape Style. Each Footer has "Page" typed in, then a space, then the page number function, then a space, then "of" typed in, then a space, and finally the total number of pages function.

The Portrait Style shows Pages 1 and 2 correctly. The next 3 sheets are in Landscape orientation; however, the page number start at 1, rather than 3.

The Preview and the PDF do not accurately show the page numbers.

A sample file is attached.

Can this be fixed?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Page numbers when using Portrait and Landscape orientations

Interesting... I'm no pro and while I've tried some wild things with templates/styles, but moving from portrait to landscape in one document isn't one of the things. I know in writer I can set the staring page number, never tried it in calc

Personally, I'd think your printer settings would cause you havoc..
My printers only print in one format.. its either/OR, not both..

But I'm posting this here, so that I can follow any response..

In the Landscape page style, Sheet dialog, uncheck Page order → First page number. After I did that in the file you attached the footer shows pages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

It works fine.

Some printers can print both portrait and landscape for the same document. Depends on the printer. Mine can.

Thank you for the prompt response. I also looked at the Ten Concepts.

I was able to locate and uncheck "first page number" in both orientations.

In the actual file where I have the problem (it has confidential info, so I reluctant to attach it), 'Page 1 of 5" works on page 1. Page 2 reads "Page 1 of 5" and the final Page 5 has "Page 4 of 5" in the Footers.

I imported the the first sheet to the file months ago. I guess that might be an issue.

Any suggestions? Thanks again.

Try setting it to 3.

Are you really sure page 2 reads "Page 1 of 5" ??

Setting Landscape Orientation to start at 3 worked for Pages 3, 4, and 5. Thank you.

I looked at Page 2 and it reads "Page 1 of 5." Checking or not checking First Page Number or setting it to start at "2" do not work.

Both pages read either "Page 1 of 5" or "Page 2 of 5."

Any suggestions?

I appreciate your thoughts to date. Thank you.

Insert a new sheet between 1 and 2 and see what that does to your numbering.
If that is fixing anything you can copy the data from the defect sheet to the new.

If not, delete the new sheet

Tried the suggestion to insert a new sheet and see what happened.

It did not work.

Open to all suggestions.

Thanks for all the help and interest.

The new page contained the words "Page" and "of." It had neither page number nor total pages.

In that case you had not inserted the Page number field and the Page count field in the new page style.

You should read, very carefully,
[Tutorial] Page numbering
and
[Tutorial] Page styles and headers/footers]

Thank you for the suggestion to read the 2 cited tutorials. Both seemed to deal with Writer and my situation is in Calc.

In any event, the syntheses of all suggestions and trial and error of trying this and that have resulted in a file where each page number is now correct.

I deeply appreciate the time and effort of all, for those suggestions created a solution for me. THANK YOU!!!!

When I see reference to a "multiple page" document I instinctively think "Writer document". OpenOffice is so integrated that knowledge from one application often is relevant to another within the suite of programs.
