[Solved] Default font in text Writer

Post by DougLassiter »

When I open a new Open Office text document, I'm stuck on Times Roman 12 point font. How can I make it open up on a different font or font size? I'd rather not mess around with Templates. Isn't there some way of setting a default?

With a Writer document open, choose the menu item OpenOffice -> Preferences. Expand the OpenOffice Writer list on the left and select Basic Fonts. You can choose your fonts there.

I'm using Open Office 4.1.15 on a Mac Monterey, and in OpenOffice -> Preferences > OpenOffice Writer list these is no "Basic Fonts" tab. There is a "Fonts" tab, but that doesn't seem to offer any obvious selection of font defaults.

Open Writer, and then you should find Basic Fonts listed when you use the OpenOffice Writer entry on the Preferences screen.

Well, that's not what I see. I see this below. Again, I am using Open Office 4.1.15.

My application is VASTLY simpler. I remotely control a Mac desktop at my elderly mom's house. She's not conversant in e-mail, and has no ability to text. So I can use Open Office on her machine to write notes to her on her screen. I want to do this in conveniently large font. I want to just open the application, and BOOM, be writing clearly in large font. Screwing around with templates makes no sense at all.

For my own writing tasks, I use both Microsoft Office and Open Office. I am not font-challenged for either of those.
