Hi,
I am working with a user who is on an older machine running CentOS-4, OpenOffice 1.5. He had compiled a Calc spreadsheet that was opening and saving predictably until yesterday. Yesterday it hung OO 1.5 and 2.3 (OO 2.3 on Ubuntu and SuSE machines), I had to issue killall soffice.bin to get it to die each instance. I have also attempted to use the 3bview.com service to convert it in hopes we could then at least access the data, no luck. Opening the file with Vim returns the expected 1.5 binary mashup and I cannot do anything with it.
And of course, this user is 'different' than our other users in that his was the only home directory on a client, everyone elses home dir's are on NFS mounts, thus they are backed up and we can access up to 6 weeks of incrementals and 3 months of fulls for them... <sigh>...
Does anyone here have experience with older format document recovery? Any links, tips, hints or even commiseration appreciated.

Re: OO/StarOffice Calc 1.5 .sxc recovery.
If your file not contain confidental information put your file here. We will try to repair it.
If you open file in zipper you could open it?(ARk)
If yes extract content.xml out from this file.
create new empty sxc. file.
put content.xml into newly created file, replace its content.xml.
If not help - open content.xml in any xml editor, try to figure out the structure of file and try to find some inconstencies in them.
If you find it replace from other part.
If all good looking - save and put into new file.

Re: OO/StarOffice Calc 1.5 .sxc recovery
You are using CentOS-4, OpenOffice 1.5?? If not, your problem is different and you should have created your own topic. Do not post in a topic belonging to someone else unless you are helping them solve their problem. This topic is now locked. Perhaps you can find a solution in [Tutorial] Format error discovered in sub-document. If you can't fix the problem using the tutorial, open your own topic.
Your post was in a OO/StarOffice Calc 1.5 .sxc recovery topic. In your own topic, confirm that you are really using that software, or clarify what office suite, for example OpenOffice 4.1.15, created/edited the file which is damaged. What is the exact message you receive which makes you believe the file needs repair? I will not help without that information. You should attach your document in your topic and perhaps we can fix it, though it is unlikely that volunteers on the forum still use 20-year-old software to test a repaired file.
