Using LibreOffice v. 7.3.7.2, Build ID: 30(Build:2) on OS: Linux 5.15.
I keep getting a message that the data source cannot be connected to, when attempting to merge an existing document with data fields already set up from a previous successful merge. Writer is trying to connect to a registered data source that I have deleted, and where I have created a new registered data source.
Sequential history of problem:
1. Created a new new database and registered it by [File>New>Database] and followed the prompts. The data source was a Calc document. This registered data source was titled (for the sake of this explanation) "Original".
2. Opened the data source with [View>Data source] to see it.
3. Then click-&-dragged the column titles where they were needed in the page.
4. Mail merger went swimmingly - all good.
5. Saved the Writer document for future use.
This is where the problem arose:
Next day, new data set (different Calc document) was to be used, but for the same document as per pt 5 above.
5. Opened yesterday's Writer document.
6. Created a *new* database and registered it with [File>New>Database] and followed the prompts. The data source was also a Calc document. This was titled "New".
7. Note: yesterday's Writer document already had the data fields (these were identical to the columns in "New" - same data type, just from a different Calc file).
8. Hit Ctrl-P, select Yes, but I keep getting an error message that Writer cannot connect with "Original" (!)
But I just created a new registered database, and am not selecting the earlier one.
Attempts at solution:
(a) I have deleted the "Original" odb
(b) I have deleted all references to "Original" in [Tools>Options>Base>Databases]
(c) In [Edit>Exchange Database] the "Original" that appears in the left window cannot be 'deleted', so basically I have no idea what this option is meant to achieve.
Essentially, I have deleted all references to "Original" that I can but its ghost seems to always fool Writer into thinking that it should try connecting there, even after I tell it specifically that there is a different data source etc.
This is driving my insane, nothing makes sense. Please help.
Is there a way to just kill/clear/wipe every and all trace of "Original"?

Re: "Ghost" Database (cannot disconnect from old one which has been deleted)
Hi, and welcome to the forum. You were close to a solution.
If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ☐ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.
Edit → Exchange Database → Available Databases (right window) → Select/expand New → Select your table in New → Define. Now the Writer document is changed to use the new data source and you can proceed with Mail Merge.WesMac wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 11:26 am Writer is trying to connect to a registered data source that I have deleted, and where I have created a new registered data source. … In [Edit>Exchange Database] the "Original" that appears in the left window cannot be 'deleted', so basically I have no idea what this option is meant to achieve. … Is there a way to just kill/clear/wipe every and all trace of "Original"?
