[Solved] Switching view scrolls to distant page
i often switch from full screen (shows two full pages) to quarter screen (shows one column/one half of one page), but whenever i do this, openoffice bumps me to some other page far distant from the one i'm on. i have to click on the page number down below and reenter the page i actually want to be on every time i resize. is there a way to insist it stay where it is on resizing the window?

The text cursor look to remain in the same position in the document when changing the page view or zoom but that part of the document is not always still visible afterwards.
If you type anything though it will come back into view. You could type a space then undo it with ctrl+z if you didn't want to make a change.

Re: Switching view scrolls to distant page
so if, for example, i'm full screen and on page 14 of a 20-page document, and then i shrink the window, i'm now on page 7. if i get back to page 14 and then make the window full screen again, i'm on page 20. this leaping around is what i'd like to stop.
but you're right that if i start to type it brings me back to where i want to be, so that's at least a workaround.

Give LibreOffice a try and see if it acts differently. There are several good reasons for switching to LibreOffice anyway, some of which are mentioned here: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information
LibreOffice 25.8.4.2 (x64) installed to Windows 11 Pro. 25H2

I think you can use for ApacheOffice and LibreOffice
menu --> Tools --> Update --> Page Formatting
If you use this real often then record some macro's
