[Issue] Java loop after using Format → Picture → Macro

Post by DaveyJones202020 »

Sometimes when I am using the "picture" dialogue box I accidentally hit the tab Macro and always immediately regret it.

As soon as I do that I get this error: Open Office requires a Java Runtime Environment to perform this task. Please install a JRE and restart open office.

I dont use macros - actually I barely know what one is - but there seems to be no way to undo this action. Once I press OK on the popup I get another popup saying "to use the "java" command line tool you need to install a jdk"...More info/ok.

Whatever I press I basically get stuck in this loop - I cant even shut down the application. The only thing I can do is force close it. And I am afraid I will lose any unsaved work.

It's bizarre that this action cannot be cancelled - I do it fairly often when trying to find a setting, because of the prominent placing of the macros tab. But I never ever want macros!

Any tips welcome.

( I haven't worked out how to share screenshots here or I would!)

From memory, if you use OK about 20 times, OpenOffice finally stops the popups. I don't experience the problem since I don't try to use macros for pictures. A long ago I installed Java on MacOS and told OpenOffice to use it.

The tab doesn't seem prominent on my system.

On Windows it's 15 times.

Thanks for your reply.

I wish I knew how to upload images to this forum - on my Open Office the macros tab takes up a whole line equivalent to the size of all the other tabs combined!

So from what you are saying the only two options are:
1) Instal this JRE simply to prevent this issue - I dont know what a JRE is and this would appear to be my only use - to be able to close this loop.
2) Hit ok 20 times - going through the loop 20 times, if I have understood correctly.

Seems a bit flawed, no?

See How to attach a document here. Crop your pics so that they are below 128KiB.
